Residential Substance Abuse

SHARPER FUTURE operates a residential substance abuse treatment program for women in a fully-licensed, comfortable, mid-sized facility located near downtown Long Beach. Referrals to this program come exclusively through the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.

The Long Beach Women's Residential Program developed by SHARPER FUTURE emphasizes self-help and peer support in a Therapeutic Community environment. The philosophy of the program emphasizes self-reliance, shared community values, and the therapeutic benefits of work. Each client learns to take responsibility for her own actions and to share in the daily operations of the treatment site. Group and individual counseling helps clients focus on areas of concern related to their substance abuse and associated issues. While well-designed programming is important to the treatment effort, peer support is definitely a key factor in promoting behavior shifts that lead to lasting positive change in client lifestyles.

The program offers highly structured and well-supervised therapeutic routines. The minimum length of stay is 120 days and the maximum length of stay is 180 days. Daily activities include clinical groups, job functions, educational classes and appointments with a variety of service providers including both SHARPER FUTURE staff and members of the outside community. Counselors and other staff members are on site 24 hours a day, 7 days per week. Program rules and norms are clearly presented and are constantly reinforced by both staff and peers within the program. This residential program is a drug free environment where no alcohol or illicit drug use is allowed. Participants are given the opportunity to provide regular feedback on the quality of services and each resident contributes to treatment planning and input regarding her progress in the program.
